I watched an incredible movie last night, although not all of its content was accurate Biblically, in my humble opinion as a presbyterian. It was called Time Changer. It was about a professor at a Baptist seminary in the 1800s that was trying to publish a book.
Inside his book, there was a statement about morality. It said that it is a good thing to teach morals to people, essentially even if Jesus Christ is not mentioned. Another man, who was on the board of the seminary had a problem with this, so he, a man dabbling in science with a time machine, requested a meeting with this first professor to convince him not to publish a work that separates the law from Christ.
To make a long story short, the professor went into the future, 2000, saw today's culture and concluded that truly morality without the authority of Jesus Christ behind it leads to destruction.
I cannot more hardily agree.
The final thing I will mention is that this movie was extremely convicting. It made me think about a whole lot of things. We as Christians, I think, have lost our first love. We have been desensitized to sin and lust, to pride and greed, and are consumed by this world. We live and toy with religion rather than being consumed with Jesus Christ. We avoid the sinful immorality of this world by obeying the law of God, by being in the world but not of it.
Living set apart, holy lives, in this decadent culture is not legalism, it is love.
