Romans 8:12-17
So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
"Know your enemy...yourself"
John Calvin said that there are two great areas of knowledge that are needed for salvation: knowledge of God and knowledge of self.
Time: less than 10 minutes
Aim: to begin the process of knowing how sin (the old man) is defeating you
- Pray that God would show you your sin, the remedy in Christ, and draw you into deep, personal relationship with Him.
- Read Romans 8:12-17.
- In less than 2 minutes, on a piece of paper, or in a journal you will keep, list the major areas of sin in your life, for example, mine are: pride, lust, love of the things of the world, love of praise, love of providing my own security.
- Pray that God will help you to begin to see these things as roadblocks for you relationship with him and joy in your life.
