Monday, March 30th, 2009

This morning was a little different. I am meeting with Dan S. in order to plan for the mission trip meeting that is scheduled for this Sunday after Sunday School. I woke up today earlier than normal, but did not leave myself enough time to perform the full set of devotions that I desire.

However, I did find a verse in my readings in Proverbs, finished the book today, that I am planning on meditating on today.

Proverbs 30:6
Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.

After a short meditation on who God is, the psalmist comes to a point. Don’t add to the words of God, because anyone who does is a liar. The reality of this statement could probably be meditated on for a lifetime.

The sufficiency of the word of God. It is not necessary nor is it profitable to add anything to God’s very words. His word is powerful and effectual. We do not need to add shows or frills or anything else to the power of the word, because the word is sufficient to perform its work.

There is also danger, the man of wisdom says, in adding to God’s word. It can bring disaster upon us and rebuke from God almighty.

I will continue to meditate on the sufficiency of God’s word in the work of the ministry, and in my life.
